Description
While often thought to be the 'second' wine of Léoville-Las-Cases, this is not in fact the case. Clos du Marquis is actually an entirely separate vineyard, 500m to the west; away from the Gironde estuary. Its wine is, however, made by the same winemaking team, and to the same exacting standards as Léoville Las Cases. The spring of 2006 was very cool, but the nice weather in May gave an even blossoming. July was marked by ten very hot days whereas August was rather cool and dry. The first ten days of September were also dry and hot and then there was a rainy period before picking. When it came to harvest-time the dry weather had however returned and allowed the crop to be picked in good conditions. The 2006 vintage is a blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
